Shallon Olsen, 10-Year-Old Gymnast, Wins Gold at Canada Winter Games

Filed under:

The youngest female gymnast at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax is also one of the best.

Ten-year-old Shallon Olsen of Surrey, B.C., won a gold medal in floor and a bronze in beam Thursday to go along with a silver she won earlier this week in the team competition.

She placed fifth in the all-around competition. Olsen is also one of the tiniest competitors at the Games, standing just 4'3'' and weighing 54 pounds.

"I really love my sport," Olsen said. "Today is my happiest day."

Olsen began gymnastics when she was two, and started competing at seven. She's the second-youngest athlete in general at the Games. Edward Guo, competing in table tennis, is about six months younger than Olsen.
