NHL Coaches, GMs on the Hot Seat

Cory CloustonThere's no shortage of NHL coaches and general managers who can take solace in how their job is safe for the time being.

But when the curtain closes on the 2010-11 regular season on Sunday, April 10, watch for the pink slips to come. Maybe not as fast as in the NFL, which has Black Monday. But the axes will fall.

Some owners have already realized that Plan A hasn't produce the desired results and they have started to implement Plan B. Others will soon catch the drift.

What will be interesting to watch is whether coaches and general managers will be recycled or whether the gene pool will be expanded.

Who's the next Guy Boucher? Remember how he went from coaching in the AHL last season to calling the shots as coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning? The results speak for themselves.

Kevin Dineen, coach of the AHL's Portland Pirates, is considered the best coach not in the NHL and he will be in demand when the search begins for a new coach.
