Frank McCourt Met With MLB Officials This Week, Report Says

Filed under:

Embattled Dodgers owner Frank McCourt spent three days at Major League Baseball's New York offices this week, discussing his plans to retain control of the team as his high-profile divorce proceeding drags on.

The meetings, reported late Friday by the Los Angeles Times, were requested by McCourt, but neither he nor MLB had any public comment.

A ruling last month by a Los Angeles County judge voided a marital property agreement between McCourt and his wife Jamie that said Frank was the sole owner of the team, but the ownership situation remains unsettled. McCourt likely would have to pay his ex-wife a substantial amount to hold onto the team, and he has said he has no intention of selling.

The Times suggested McCourt might propose reworking the Dodgers' television contract or sell a minority ownership share as a way to raise money, but commissioner Bud Selig would have the right to veto either of those endeavors.
