It's been said that the Houston Rockets should be the blueprint for NBA teams utilizing its D-League affiliate and, after trading Antonio Anderson for Matt Janning (pictured right) Thursday, the Rockets took one more step cementing their role as pioneers. The Rockets, who have run the basketball operations of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for the past two seasons, keep a close eye on Vipers players they think might be able to help out the big club sometime in the future. When the team believes that they have seen enough of one of the Vipers players, they've shown a keen ability to swap out the old prospect for a new player on the fringe of being on an NBA roster.
"Antonio was a big piece of what we did last year," Vipers general manager Gersson Rosas told The Monitor. "This year was a different team, and we had more depth at those positions. He wants to get to the NBA, and we are probably not the best vehicle for him to get there."
Rosas added, according to the report, that "the Rockets have a full evaluation of Anderson and there was really nothing more he could show them."
