Les Miles to Stay at LSU

Les Miles has turned down the coaching job at Michigan and will return to LSU in 2011, the school has confirmed.

"I am pleased to announce that Les Miles will remain the head coach at LSU," said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. "Les has led this program to many great successes on the field and his players represent LSU well off the field. We look forward to many great years of LSU football under his leadership."

Miles was set to meet with Michigan on Tuesday to discuss its coaching position, which became vacant when they fired Rich Rodriguez in early January. Since firing Rodriguez, the school has struggled to attract a big-name candidate. Rumors linked Michigan alum Jim Harbaugh to the job, but he instead chose to move to the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Miles also played at Michigan, in 1974 and 1975, under Bo Schembechler. He returned as a graduate assistant in 1980.

Where Michigan goes now is anybody's guess. San Diego State's Brady Hoke has reportedly been a candidate for the job.

Miles is 62-17 as LSU's head coach, with a 5-1 record in bowl games, including a rout over Texas A&M in January's Cotton Bowl and 2008's BCS National Championship Game.
