The Houston Texans' good feeling to start the season has become something else entirely. The Texans, after a 29-23 loss to the San Diego Chargers Sunday, have lost three home games, and worse, the heady feeling of a 2-0 start and a season-opening victory over a longtime nemesis has dissolved into frustration.
The Texans are 4-4. They have lost four of their last six games.
They are struggling defensively, and after spending the week discussing the need to start fast, they did just that -- then lost a nine-point lead in a flurry of big pass plays allowed.
"Frustrating doesn't begin to describe what I'm feeling right now," middle linebacker Brian Cushing told John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "It's super-frustrating because we just gave the game away. We knew exactly what they were going to do -- deep balls for big plays -- and we couldn't stop them."
The Texans, who beat the Indianapolis Colts for the first time in six meetings in the season opener, are a game behind the Colts and Tennessee Titans at the season's midway point. They are tied with Jacksonville for third place in a division they led the first six weeks of the season.
They are also 2-3 at home this season.
"This one hurts deep," cornerback Glover Quin said. "We had a team on the ropes. We had them down, and as a defense, we couldn't finish. As a defense, we couldn't hold on. We let this one slip right through our finger tips."
