Marcus Benard Collapses in Browns Locker Room

Marcus Benard, the second-year outside linebacker for the Browns, had to be hospitalized Thursday after collapsing in the team's locker room.

Benard was on a chair at his locker just before taking the field for practice, talking on the phone, when he fell to the ground. After a few moments of uncertainty, fellow linebacker Matt Roth rushed to get help.

According to the Browns, Benard never lost consciousness, and was sitting up when he was wheeled into the ambulance. He was stable and alert.

Benard, a 2009 undrafted free agent out of Jackson State, has appeared in seven of Cleveland's games and started one. He leads the Browns with 4.5 sacks and has been a key player in the Browns' defensive resurgence.
