Nick Fazekas spent four seasons as a standout player on the University of Nevada Reno's basketball team. He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, and after brief stops with the Mavs, Los Angeles Clippers and teams in Belgium and France, he's back to where it all began, as FanHouse has confirmed the 6-foot-11 big man will be the Reno Bighorns' first overall selection in tonight's NBA Development League draft. The now 25-year-old Fazekas averaged 20.4 points per game as a senior along 11.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while shooting 57 percent from the field and an impressive 43 percent from beyond the arc, a rare skill for a player of his size but ultimately part of the total package that helped make him the 34th overall selection of the Mavericks in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Fazekas had a rocky start in his first professional season, however, as he played just four games for the Mavs before being assigned to the Tulsa 66ers before ultimately being released midway through the season. Fazekas soon latched on with the Clippers, however, and averaged more than 11 minutes per game over the final 22 games of the season. Since Fazekas' first professional foray in the NBA didn't work out, he opted to play in Belgium and France since, though he missed the majority of last season with a broken ankle while playing for Dijon Bourgogne in France's ProA League.
