Mike Thomas Enjoys Day in National Limelight After Hail Mary Catch

Mike Thomas may or may not have another NFL moment as he did Sunday. If not, he made the most of the one he got.

Thomas, a second-year veteran whose 50-yard reception on a last-play Hail Mary pass gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a 31-24 victory over Houston Sunday, flew to Bristol, Conn., Monday, where the 5-foot-8 receiver was featured on a variety of ESPN's Monday broadcasting.

It was a memorable day, certainly.

But Thomas said he doesn't want it to be his best memory. Far from it.

"I think this is an icebreaker for my life," Thomas told Mark Long of the Associated Press. "I don't want to be a one Hail Mary kind of guy. I want to be an elite receiver in this league, and I think I can be."

Thomas wasn't a one-catch guy Sunday. He actually had a career-high 149 yards receiving, meaning he had 99 yards even before the play that earned him the trip to the self-proclaimed World Wide Leader's headquarters.

On that play, Jaguars quarterback David Garrard threw high toward the end zone, where Texans cornerback Glover Quin knocked the ball toward the ground. Thomas caught the ball a few yards from the end zone and stepped in for one of the NFL season's highlight plays.

"I've always envisioned something like this," he said.
