The NBA Development League made quite a jump last season in terms of game coverage when it went from only being broadcast online via the D-League's Futurecast to being broadcast, albeit only on Saturday nights, in high definition on the VERSUS cable network.

This season, according to a D-League press release, VERSUS' coverage will include 11 regular season games and six playoff games which will include this year's D-League Finals. VERSUS will also air a live game from the annual NBA D-League Showcase, the highest profile event the D-League has, which begins Jan. 10. it also will televise a slam dunk and 3-point contest, new additions to the Showcase, which is being held on South Padre Island, Texas.

Though the majority of games will be same-day tape-delayed to be aired Saturday evenings beginning with a Jan. 22 tilt featuring the Austin Toros and Utah Flash, the first game of the season will be aired live on Thursday, Nov. 18 when the expansion Texas Legends faceoff against the defending D-League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The Legends-Vipers tilt will feature the coaching debut of the Legends' Nancy Lieberman, the first female to serve as the head coach of an NBA-affiliated team, as well as a bevy of players with NBA experience that will include former first-round draft picks Rashad McCants, Sean Williams, Antonio Daniels and Reece Gaines for the Legends along with the possibility of a couple of assigned players from either the Dallas Mavericks or Houston Rockets -- the NBA affiliates of the Legends and Vipers respectively.
