WASHINGTON (AP) -- Adam LaRoche acknowledges he's looked forward to playing against the last-place Washington Nationals in recent years, feeling "pretty comfortable'' about facing the last-place team. Now he hopes to help Washington make things tougher on opponents.
The Nationals officially introduced LaRoche as their new first baseman during a news conference at their stadium on Friday, a week after announcing they'd agreed to a contract with the free agent.
LaRoche said he doesn't compare himself to the player he's replacing at first base, Adam Dunn, and won't "put pressure on myself to try to do what he did and match his numbers, good or bad, defense, offense.''
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman praised LaRoche as "outstanding'' defensively.
