Dodgers Non-Tender Russell Martin, Reliever George Sherrill

For the time being, anyway, Russell Martin is no longer a Los Angeles Dodger.

The two-time All-Star, once considered a cornerstone piece for the Dodgers, was not tendered a contract for 2011 before Thursday night's deadline, making him a free agent. The Dodgers also non-tendered lefty reliever George Sherrill and reserve outfielder Trent Oeltjen.

The Dodgers reportedly spent the day shopping Martin around to other teams in potential trades but found no takers for the 27-year-old, who has seen his fortunes fall off precipitously since his breakout 2007 season that followed an impressive rookie campaign the previous year.

A hip injury limited Martin to 97 games in 2010, and he didn't do much when he was on the field, hitting .248 with five homers and 26 RBI. His on-base skills were about all that remained from his glory days, as he logged a .347 OBP to prop up his anemic production elsewhere.
