The Texas Rangers signed Japanese relief pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama to a one-year deal with two club options Tuesday. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by the club.Tateyama, who will turn 35 on Dec. 26, became a free agent this offseason after posting a career-low 1.80 ERA in 58 appearances for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in 2010.
The side-armer is likely viewed as a right-handed specialist by the Rangers. He held right-handed hitters to a .186 average this past season.
