When Kyle Brotzman honked a 26-yard field goal last Friday it set off a chain of events that would lead to Nevada defeating Boise State. The implications were enormous, not only for the BCS race, but also for financial reasons.
With a win, Boise State could have looked forward to a $17 million payout from the Rose Bowl or the BCS Championship Game. The 10-1 Broncos might now find themselves in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco which, relatively speaking, is only worth a measly $800,000 for the school. That's a huge hit, but not completely unexpected given the current major-college football postseason setup.
