Fans of the Giants and Rangers have plenty to keep them occupied right now, but fans of the other 28 teams in the league are looking for a little something to keep baseball on their minds. The Elias free-agent compensation rankings should do the trick. For those unfamiliar with the process or just rusty after a year not thinking about it, the Elias Sports Bureau ranks all the players in the major leagues over the last two years and assigns them as Type A, Type B or none.
Assuming they are offered arbitration by their old teams, free agents designated Type A bring back two draft picks -- a first or second rounder, which comes from the signing team, plus a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds -- if they sign elsewhere, while Type B players bring back one sandwich round pick.
