Tuesday night in the CONCACAF Champions League was borderline historic for MLS. Real Salt Lake continued its dominance at Rio Tinto Stadium and defeated Mexican power Cruz Azul, 3-1, before a crowd exceeding 20,000. While the Columbus Crew won without even taking the field.Salt Lake (4-1-1) clinched Group A with the victory and became the first of the 14 MLS teams to play in the expanded continental tournament to win its first-round group.
"It's a step in the right direction," RSL coach Jason Kreis said of the historic distinction. He made a similar point about winning the MLS Cup title last year.
